Alan Davie (1920-2014)
One of the most important British artists of the 20th century, Alan Davie drew on his love of other cultures, music and language to give life to his colourful, joyous work. Initially inspired by Abstract Expressionism, he followed his own path, creating a magical world of signs, symbols and colour that draws on the myths and traditions of ancient civilisations in an entirely original and distinctive way.
