MEET THE MAKER
Sven Berlin (1911-1999)
Sometimes considered the black sheep among St Ives artists, Sven Berlin was a painter, sculptor and writer who settled in the town in the 1930s. Instrumental in establishing St Ives as a world-renowned artistic colony, he was subsequently ostracised by a thinly-disguised autobiography exposing the politics and power-plays of his fellow painters. Nowadays, he is remembered fondly as a true bohemian with a towering talent matched only by his physical stature.
