MEET THE MAKER
Michael Broido (1927-2013)
Born in London, Broido spent his early life in South Africa before returning to work in Britain in his twenties. From 1956 he lived in Cornwall, initially working part-time as a gardener for Patrick Heron to enable him to pursue his artistic endeavours. Entirely self-taught, he went on to combine working for Barbara Hepworth with teaching at Truro Art School. One of the lesser known St Ives artists, he showed regularly with the Penwith Society of Artists, becoming known for his lively abstract expressionist paintings, filled with colour and energy.
